The Evil Unleashed (teutic.wad) is a 9 level wad that replaces Doom 1s third episode. It was created by The Innocent Crew, Denis Möller (Panza) & his brother Thomas (Grindcrusher). The two were involved in several big name mapping projects, such as: Momento Mori 1&2 and Requiem. Thomas himself also contributed the "thug" monster sprites from Hacx. Of course, they also released two notable wads of their own: Slaughter Until Death, and its sequel The Evil Unleashed. The Evil Unleashed was released October 1st, 1994 and would originally require Doom v1.666. It would even come with .bat files to patch Doom to include custom deHacked spritework (and to unpatch it, if one wanted to delete the wad, though none of that is necessary now due to modern sourceports. The Evil Unleashed was labelled one of the best wads of 1994 by Doomworld Forums (y'know, back when they weren't so crap).
The Evil Unleashed is a very strange play for me. It has some VERY cool map tricks and visuals, but it could also be considered a proto-slaughter map, throwing hordes of monsters of lower tiers at the player at a time. The monsters aren't the worst part, as that would be the maze-like levels riddled with tricks and closets and all sorts of ways to get lost. Keyhunting regularly goes from a short adventure to >20 minutes of searching and killing. It isn't a particularly easy wad, but I hesitate to call it truly difficult as the real difficulty is from hordes that can be chaingunned or plasma gunned down and from mazes that annoy the player more than they provide a decent challenge. Still, it's worth a play, if just for the historical value and for the sightseeing. It even has some very early Doomcute, so thats something.
